Project details

Project Background

This project was applied in a steel structure fabrication plant in Türkiye. The site mainly processed factory steel structures, bridge components, equipment platforms, support beams and large welded parts. After plate cutting, the workshop needed to perform beveling, edge milling and pre-weld preparation on some thick plate edges to meet later jointing, assembly and welding requirements.

In steel structure manufacturing, plate edge quality directly affects weld formation, assembly gap and welding efficiency. In the past, some edge preparation work relied on manual flame trimming and hand grinding. Although the work could be completed, thick plate, large-batch and long straight-edge processing often led to uneven edges, unstable bevel angles and long manual finishing time.

On-Site Application

The project site used LEHUNDI plate beveling and edge milling equipment for edge processing and pre-weld preparation of steel plates with different thicknesses. The equipment was mainly used for thick plate edge beveling, edge milling before plate joining, weld area preparation and component finishing before assembly.

In actual production, the equipment worked together with the cutting and assembly process in the steel structure workshop. After the steel plates were cut, they entered the edge preparation process, where the equipment completed more stable beveling and edge finishing. Compared with relying only on manual grinding, plate beveling and edge milling equipment improved processing consistency, reduced repeated manual finishing and provided better edge conditions before the plates entered the welding process.

Project Challenges

Steel structure fabrication plants usually face multiple plate specifications, large thickness variations, large welded components and tight delivery schedules. Plate edge processing must meet both efficiency requirements and quality requirements for bevel angle, edge straightness and pre-weld preparation.

The main site challenges included: manual grinding of thick plate edges was inefficient; long straight-edge processing required stable equipment performance; different plate thicknesses required different bevel angles and processing depths; inconsistent edges could affect later fit-up and welding quality; during batch component delivery, the workshop needed to reduce manual finishing and rework time.

Application Results

LEHUNDI plate beveling and edge milling equipment was used in this project for thick plate edge processing and pre-weld preparation in the steel structure workshop. The equipment helped the workshop reduce the proportion of manual flame trimming and hand grinding, improve edge processing consistency and make later welding and assembly smoother.

After use, the site reported improved steel plate edge processing efficiency, more stable bevel formation, easier control of long straight-edge processing and shorter pre-weld preparation time.
